September 27, 2007GMLscripts.com Hardware Failure

/news/images/blogicon-20070927.png As some of you have no doubt noticed, this site is having major issues. Over the last weekend we had intermittent access problems. My web host informed me of a hardware failure which was supposedly fixed. The reality is, the site is completely broken now. I'm currently working with them to find the problem. If you are a hosting reseller for a reputable host, I am looking for a new, affordable provider. This host is dirt cheap but the service is obviously lacking. The comment form is still working, so please contact me if you would like to make a hosting offer. Sorry for the inconvenience and thank you, Brandon, for bringing the problem to my attention.

August 19, 2007GMLscripts.com forums now OPEN!

/news/images/blogicon-20070819.png GMLscripts.com has been active since March 2007 and the site has grown tremendously since then. But it could be so much more. That's where this forum comes in. Here is a venue to discuss the current scripts or propose and create new ones in a truly collaborative environment. Hopefully we'll all have a little fun while we are at it.

The forum may not look like much yet but rest assured some exciting new features are on the way.

August 19, 2007Code Highlighting

/news/images/blogicon-20070819.png These forums feature experimental code highlighting. The feature is turned off by default. You can enable it in your Profile > Display settings. There are two levels of operation. Full highlighting will render code just like the Game Maker editor does along with highlighting numbers and quoted strings. Basic mode only highlights quoted strings, numbers, comments, and keywords and renders much faster. On some browsers full highlighting can be rather slow.

Known browser issues:

Firefox - slow rendering

Internet Explorer 6 - infamous IE peekaboo bug sometimes hides bits of code

Opera - none

June 30, 2007Smorgasbord of String Scripts

/news/images/blogicon-20070630.png We present for your coding pleasure a smorgasbord of string scripts. We start with four versions of implode to go with the existing explode array scripts. Next are scripts to capitalize the first word or every word in a string. Here we have a script which returns the Soundex value of a word. Leif902 brings us a script to scramble a word's letters into a strangely readable form. Speaking of scrambled, here are two more, one to return a random string of characters and another to shuffle the characters in a string. Here are three scripts for trimming whitespace from the beginning, end, or both ends of a string. You can use this pair of scripts to split a string into chunks and to perform word wrapping to a given line length. Here is a pair to pad the left or pad the right side of a string. Another pair of simple but useful scripts return the left or right ends of a string. Here's one to find the last occurance of a substring within a string. Finally, we add another encryption routine to the collection with the fast and effective RC4 algorithm and end with another security script, MD5 message digest.
